1:30 am

So it’s 1:30 in the morning and I have to work today. What am I doing you ask? I’m holding Finn right now in the hope that Christy can get a little more sleep. He was due to eat at midnight and he’s been stirring as I’ve held him but all in all he’s been pretty calm.
Christy is practically getting no sleep these days since Finn has one heck of an appetite. I wish there was something I could do to help her out but right now there isn’t. I’m not equipped to feed him. Not until we switch to formula a little later down the road.
I don’t really know how she functions on no sleep. I’m cranky as all get out if I don’t get a few consecutive hours. Just ask her. She’s seen me running on little sleep and it ain’t pretty.
Anyway as I sit here rocking back and forth listening to Finn sleep and tapping away on my phone I really don’t mind being awake at this hour. Not if the reason I’m awake is laying in my arms.
Happy Father’s Day indeed.
Father’s Day
I was woken up this morning by shouts of “HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!” and Christy, Brae and Finn plopping down on the bed next to me with hands full of gifts. A nice way to be greeted in the morning! I’ll tell you it’s a great feeling. So, in my reusable WalMart shopping bag, Brae gave me a new picture of him framed in different colored popsicle sticks, all colors chosen by him of course, a coffee mug with his handprints on it and his name (which I used this morning for my coffee), a “Weather Rock” which is exactly what it sounds like. It was painted by Braeden himself and came with instructions on how to use it. Hang it outside and…if it’s wet, it’s raining, if it’s white it’s snowing, if it’s moving, it’s windy, if it’s warm it’s sunny outside and if it’s missing, you’ve been ripped off. Now is that perfect for my sense of humor or what? Brae (and his Gram) know me quite well. I also got a homemade Father’s Day card from Brae with Superman on the front and inside it says “You’re my superhero”. That’s going on the wall. =o)
From Christy and Brae I got three tickets to the Rascal Flatts concert in September! How awesome is that? Finn will be one day shy of 4 months old then and if he’s feeling up to it, he’ll be joining us on the lawn for the show. I totally didn’t expect to get concert tickets for Father’s Day. It was a complete surprise and I’m already looking forward to it. I wasn’t planning on going to any concerts anytime soon since Finn is here but we’ll see how it goes in a few months. I think it’ll be a lot of fun for us. I also received the movie “Defiance” with Daniel Craig. It looks really cool, I’ll have to figure out when to watch it. Hmm…also got a pack of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and a baggie full of candy. Just my style.
So, so far it’s been a great Father’s Day weekend for me. Just hanging out with no plans really other than making the rounds to visit all the Dad’s and Granddad’s which we’ll be doing shortly. Happy Father’s Day to all.

Both boys are growing like weeds. Finnegan is probably at 10 pounds already. He’s begun not fitting into the newborn size diapers already and we’re going to have to go a size up now. He’s eating like … well he’s got an appetite that beats out any one of us, that’s for sure. He’s like clockwork every two hours and you can tell if he’s late in eating because his belly starts rumbling like a freight train going by.
Brae’s in the “I’m clumsy and tripping over the floor” stage as he’s getting taller. It’s almost like his legs are moving faster than he thinks they are. He’ll get up and start walking and trip over the carpet or he’ll be walking in a straight line and suddenly one of his legs will hit the pack’n'play on the floor. I’m sure it’ll get worse. We’ll just have to have plenty of band-aids and ice packs on hand.
Finnegan seems to have trouble pooing lately. He gets very uncomfortable when he has to go (hey, who doesn’t?) and then really struggles to fire away. We usually have to get him on the floor and work his legs like he’s peddling a bicycle to help him go and that usually works. He’s also learned where his thumb is on his hands. He has not, however, mastered the art of getting it in his mouth. Usually he’ll end up trying to eat his fist or another part of his arm, did I mention he gave himself a little blood blister on his arm because of how hard he chomped down on it? I fear this guy when he starts sprouting teeth. Right now he’s swinging in his little swing making random noises. He’s dressed in his moo-cow onesie and appears content with rocking back and forth.
Christy’s been amazing. I don’t really know how she can do all she does running on practically no sleep. I am getting more sleep than she is and I feel delirious at times, I can’t imagine how she feels.
Long Time No Blog
If you haven’t heard already, Finnegan Todd arrived on
May 12th at 2:08pm at a weight of 7lbs 15oz and 21 inches long. He’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen! There are no words to describe the feeling I had when he arrived.
Since then he’s been quite busy growing and eating. He’s up to 9lbs 1oz. He’s not been a fan of sleeping at night yet so we’ve been up with him at all hours of the night. Christy’s been taking the brunt of it. I don’t know how she does it without going insane. She really is a super mom.
Anyway, this is just a quick update blog since I’ve been quiet for so long. Perhaps a more detailed post later tonight.
Ciao!
Finn’s Shower
How lucky are we? We have such a wonderful family. They threw us a baby shower for Finnegan today under the guise of Jessie’s birthday party (her birthday is next week). We both had suspicions that it wasn’t exactly a birthday party but I think we were both very surprised to see the scale of the shower. There were close to 30 people there! Mom and Dad Mannering had it at their house and there was so much stuff. All kinds of food and drink and a tasty cake from Serpe’s. And the gifts. I don’t think we need anything more for Finn now! We got his bedding set for the crib, a car seat and base, high chair, all types of stuff to deck out his room with a nautical theme, diapers, a mobile, and I don’t even know everything else. We have a list of who gave us what so we can send thank you cards. I did not expect so much stuff. Our family is very VERY generous. So many baby clothes too, some of them have very cute sayings and pictures on them.
I’d love to see pictures from the shower. Christy was the center of attention so she did not have her camera with her but we were constantly blinded by flashes going off so we know there are tons of pictures. I know we’ll get them emailed to us soon and they’ll be uploaded to Flickr not long after that.
It all started about 1:30 and we didn’t leave until after 6 and needless to say we were all exhausted. I don’t know how Christy does it and I don’t know how she’s still awake at this moment. But she is. Sitting on the couch helping Brae play World of Warcraft. I’ve got a lot to do tomorrow. We have a lot of stuff I need to find places for. A lot of baby stuff needs to be washed and I should be able to get Finn’s room all finished by tomorrow night which is really exciting. I know Christy has been wanting it to be done now and we just hadn’t gotten all the stuff we needed. But boy do we have it all now. I think the nursery is going to look really really good once everything is in there. I know pictures of that will definitely be put online.
We’re very fortunate to have such a loving family. Thank you to everyone who made today so awesome. It means a lot to us!
