My first instinct is to ask you if you were inebriated when you wrote this post. But then I just find myself smiling. Thank you, dear. If ever I needed to read something so thoughtful it would be right at this very moment. I honestly don't know how either of us do it. It's all worth it. Our family, the boys, us. It's all worth the craziness. Though I would enjoy more than 3 hours of sleep at night. I love you babe, forever and forever again!

Incredibly well written! It makes me almost embarassed when I hear people who make comments about people who are uninsured being irresponsible. Having been uninsured and briefly on a county funded health plan I don't think it's about irresponsibility. There are entire work sectors that are not designed with the health and wellbeing of their workers in mind. (of course you know i'm talking about retail) No sick leave, or in some cases sick leave that doubles as 'vacation time.' (Ooh, i sure had a blast being out of work for two weeks with the flu! So glad I took that Influenzacation!) Pay raises that not only completely ignore cost of living increases, but are in most cases downright insulting (.10-.33/hour - I'm still looking at you retail!) and no chance for merit increases?

Yes, I have insurance through my employer because I worked my ass of for a year to prove to them that I was worth retaining as a full-time employee.

Could I use the money that I pay for it in other ways? Yes.
Can I afford to actually USE the insurance that I buy for preventative care? No. Wouldn't even dream of it.
Can I afford to use ANY of the benefits that I pay for? No.
Am I confident that if I have an emergency, an illness or something terrible happen to me that I will not be made financially destitute because of it? No.

So what about me? I'm still taking a chance every day, especially in a job like mine where I could easily be injured on the job or develop or aggravate an injury that could lead to long-term pain. Am I irresponsible? Or am I just one of many victims of an industry that proudly regards its workforce as 'disposable'?

Hey John. I don't mind you silently stalking my blog at all. Christy's got a LOT of awesome ideas with design. I would recommend Wordpress as well. I've used Blogger and Typepad and Wordpress by far the easiest and most customizable option I've run across thus far, IMHO.

And yeah...I wasn't too wild about the unicorns. Hah. Christy redid the graphics for me, took her like 5 minutes. She's good. Very good.
