Both boys are growing like weeds.  Finnegan is probably at 10 pounds already.  He’s begun not fitting into the newborn size diapers already and we’re going to have to go a size up now.  He’s eating like … well he’s got an appetite that beats out any one of us, that’s for sure.  He’s like clockwork every two hours and you can tell if he’s late in eating because his belly starts rumbling like a freight train going by.

Brae’s in the “I’m clumsy and tripping over the floor” stage as he’s getting taller.  It’s almost like his legs are moving faster than he thinks they are.  He’ll get up and start walking and trip over the carpet or he’ll be walking in a straight line and suddenly one of his legs will hit the pack’n'play on the floor.  I’m sure it’ll get worse.  We’ll just have to have plenty of band-aids and ice packs on hand.

Finnegan seems to have trouble pooing lately.  He gets very uncomfortable when he has to go (hey, who doesn’t?) and then really struggles to fire away.  We usually have to get him on the floor and work his legs like he’s peddling a bicycle to help him go and that usually works.  He’s also learned where his thumb is on his hands.  He has not, however, mastered the art of getting it in his mouth.  Usually he’ll end up trying to eat his fist or another part of his arm, did I mention he gave himself a little blood blister on his arm because of how hard he chomped down on it?  I fear this guy when he starts sprouting teeth.  Right now he’s swinging in his little swing making random noises.  He’s dressed in his moo-cow onesie and appears content with rocking back and forth.

Christy’s been amazing.  I don’t really know how she can do all she does running on practically no sleep.  I am getting more sleep than she is and I feel delirious at times, I can’t imagine how she feels.

Long Time No Blog

June 8th, 2009 Brian 1 comment

If you haven’t heard already, Finnegan Todd arrived on
May 12th at 2:08pm at a weight of 7lbs 15oz and 21 inches long. He’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen! There are no words to describe the feeling I had when he arrived.

Since then he’s been quite busy growing and eating. He’s up to 9lbs 1oz. He’s not been a fan of sleeping at night yet so we’ve been up with him at all hours of the night. Christy’s been taking the brunt of it. I don’t know how she does it without going insane. She really is a super mom.

Anyway, this is just a quick update blog since I’ve been quiet for so long. Perhaps a more detailed post later tonight.

Ciao!

Finn’s Shower

March 28th, 2009 Brian 1 comment

How lucky are we?  We have such a wonderful family.  They threw us a baby shower for Finnegan today under the guise of Jessie’s birthday party (her birthday is next week).  We both had suspicions that it wasn’t exactly a birthday party but I think we were both very surprised to see the scale of the shower.  There were close to 30 people there!   Mom and Dad Mannering had it at their house and there was so much stuff.  All kinds of food and drink and a tasty cake from Serpe’s.   And the gifts.  I don’t think we need anything more for Finn now!  We got his bedding set for the crib, a car seat and base, high chair, all types of stuff to deck out his room with a nautical theme, diapers, a mobile, and I don’t even know everything else.  We have a list of who gave us what so we can send thank you cards.  I did not expect so much stuff.  Our family is very VERY generous.   So many baby clothes too, some of them have very cute sayings and pictures on them.

I’d love to see pictures from the shower.  Christy was the center of attention so she did not have her camera with her but we were constantly blinded by flashes going off so we know there are tons of pictures.  I know we’ll get them emailed to us soon and they’ll be uploaded to Flickr not long after that.

It all started about 1:30 and we didn’t leave until after 6 and needless to say we were all exhausted.   I don’t know how Christy does it and I don’t know how she’s still awake at this moment.  But she is.  Sitting on the couch helping Brae play World of Warcraft.  I’ve got a lot to do tomorrow.  We have a lot of stuff I need to find places for.  A lot of baby stuff needs to be washed and I should be able to get Finn’s room all finished by tomorrow night which is really exciting.  I know Christy has been wanting it to be done now and we just hadn’t gotten all the stuff we needed.  But boy do we have it all now.  I think the nursery is going to look really really good once everything is in there.  I know pictures of that will definitely be put online.

We’re very fortunate to have such a loving family.  Thank you to everyone who made today so awesome.  It means a lot to us!

Random Stuff

March 1st, 2009 Brian No comments

I ran out to Acme this afternoon to buy Christy some Coke.  She said she wanted soda and I didn’t get any while I was grocery shopping at Walmart earlier and while driving through Fox Run I glanced at the new BBQ fast food place that’s been put in where the old Taco Bell used to be.  It’s called Bar-B-Cutie.  Get it?  Clever.

They must have an extensive menu because on the menu board of the drive through is about a 12 page menu printed in size 12 font.  The size of the font on this blog.  Now who in their right mind is going to be able to read the text of a menu that size AT A DRIVE THRU???  Clearly someone didn’t think that through very far.  I just thought that was interesting.  Good for them for having such an extensive menu at a fast-food type place but they need to take a few pointers from McD’s or Taco Bell.  Pictures and big letters.  People in the drive through typically don’t have or want to take the time to read a menu.

Here in Delaware, everyone panics when there’s the threat of snow.  Doesn’t matter if it’s one inch or ten inches.  If snow is in the forecast, everyone rushes out to the store to buy food, milk, etc.  Funny how that works.  Like a significant snowfall means we will all be housebound and unable to do anything or go anywhere.  OMG PANIC!  Currently it’s snowing, and in the last hour it’s begun sticking to the grass but it’s not sticking on the road yet.  Today happened to be the day I had to go grocery shopping along with everyone who was panicking at the same time.  Walmart was a complete mess with people buying what I guess they felt they needed to weather the snow.  I went through as fast as I could buying what we needed for normal groceries and got out of there in about an hour and a half, so it wasn’t too bad.

The forecast is for 8-14″ of snow overnight.  I’ll believe that when I see it.  It’s been several years since we saw a significant snowfall.  I maintain the only way to know how much snow we’re going to get is to wake up in the morning and look out the window.

Learning Instances

February 26th, 2009 Brian No comments

I have a somewhat irrational fear of running dungeons in WoW and it’s because I know I’m not the best player out there and plus I already have one strike against me playing a Huntard.  Also my lack of good gear means my DPS stinks but in order to improve the DPS, I need better gear, to get that gear I need to run instances.  See the conundrum? In spite of all of that, I was “dragged” into a heroic Halls of Lightning run last night by my friend Femme.  She used to be in my guild but left last week for reasons not altogether foreign to me (that’s another story though).  She keeps trying to get me into instance runs and I politely keep coming up with excuses not to go.  Last night I didn’t have a good one ready so I felt obligated to go and it ended up being a very good run

Anyway, my fear has kept me out of many a group looking for DPS for various instances but as my friend pointed out last night, how else am I going to get better gear if I don’t run instances?  So even though I was lagging in the DPS charts, I didn’t die at all (which is rare) and completed the Shatterproof, Halls of Lightning and Heroic: The Halls of Lightning acheivments with the run and also got myself up to ‘honored’ with the Kirin’Tor.   Not bad for my first HoL run.

We had a good group with an awesome healer and Femme (who’s claims to have run HoL only 40-50 times) was our group lead and was very good about explaining the fights to us.  There was another HoL rookie with us and we didn’t even wipe once.

So slowly I’m overcoming my fear of n00bing up instance runs.  Now if I can just find groups that wouldn’t mind explaining things to me as we go, I’ll be set.  Seems more often or not that people don’t want explain the instance, they just want to run through as fast as possible to get badges, loot and honor.  That doesn’t help rookies like me who don’t run these things a lot.  I mean, I can research the instances online to learn about them but that’s nothing like actually doing the fights.

So we’ll see.  Maybe I can get another run in with a group tonight.  That would be fun!
