Here We Go Again

Remember three years ago when we heard our esteemed commander in chief say the now infamous words “You’re doing a heck of a job, Brownie”?  Remember that?  I’m sure everyone that was in and around Louisana at that time do.  Now, they’re gearing up for another bout with mother nature.  She always wins.  The only thing that changes is how badly you get the snot beaten out of you each time.  They have been starting evacuations already.  Last week, they started volutarily moving people out of the strike zone and this weekend the mandatories were supposed to kick in.

Gustav just finished ripping through Cuba as a category 4 hurricane with top sustained winds between 130-140 mph.  It’s just now moving back into open waters off the northwest end of Cuba.  It’s pretty much got a straight path of open, warm waters to strengthen in before it makes landfall again somewhere along the Gulf Coast.  This one is probably going to be as nasty, if not nastier, than Katrina was.  It’s got a lot of space to travel before it hits land AND it’s nothing but open warm water.

I don’t even know what I would do in this situation.  I mean, I’d get the hell out of its way that’s for sure.  Twice in 3 years though?  I don’t think I could take that.  You’ve been rebuilding for the last few years and here comes nature again to smash it to pieces.  How many times do you start rebuilding?  I can’t even start to imagine what it’s like to be there right now.

I just hope our government’s response to the emergency is a little more organized this time around.
